Alan Bennett broke new dramatic ground with this series of monologues when they appeared on BBC TV in 1988.  You will have a chance to see four of them performed by Pauline Daniels and Eithne Brown under the direction of Jen Heyes:-

  • Pauline will be performing "A Lady of Letters" and "A Cream Cracker Under the Settee" (performed in the television versions by Patricia Routledge and Thora Hird).

  • Eithne will be performing "A Bed Among Lentils" and "Her Big Chance"  (Anna Massey and Julie Walters in the television productions).

Pauline Daniels

Pauline Daniels Pauline is perhaps best know as a stand up comedienne, and as such has appeared internationally, a UK high spot being an engagement at the London Palladium and television appearances in The Comedians, Saturday Royal and Wogan. Pauline is also a fine actress.  Amongst her many stage roles her portrayals of Mama Morton in Chicago, Rose in  Gypsy and  her now legendary performances as Shirley Valentine can be singled out for particular mention.  Television performances include Bread and twelve months in Brookside whilst on radio she co-presented with Roger Phillips for two years on radio Merseyside.  Yet another string to her bow is her superb singing.  Pauline has performed with the Liverpool Philharmonic on several occasions and starred in the West End hit musical “A Saint She Ain’t” parodying Mae West.

Eithne Browne
Eithne Browne A native of Liverpool Eithne’s first stage appearance was in the original production of Willy Russell’s “Blood Brothers” at the Liverpool Playhouse. On its transfer to the West End she took over the lead from Barbara Dickson for over fifty performances. Since then she has appeared in a number of productions in Theatres all over Britain. Her credits include Billy Liar, Wuthering Heights, the Full Monty, Shirley Valentine, Educating Rita, Abigail’s Party and many others.  On television her best known role is probably that of Cissy Rogers in Brookside however she has also appeared in Emerdale Farm, Clocking Off, Stretford Wives and others.
Eithne is also actively involved in running workshops, teaching, play readings as well as being the voice of Liverpool's ‘Ferry Across the Mersey’.
