Hands To Peace
Gustavo Canavosio was born in 1956 in the city of Cordoba in the centre of Argentina. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism from the National University of Cordoba. For the last ten years he has been developing his unique style involving a mix of sculpture, drawing and digital techniques. The basis of each picture is a digital image of narrative hand gestures or x rays of his own bones. It is from these that the action into each work is derived.
'Hands To Peace' is one of five major sets of work created by Gustavo - his "Quinquenio". The others are "The Evangel of the Hands", "The Man of LA Mancha", "Ajedro" and "Avanti Dante". If you click on the image on the left you will be able to get some idea of the technique he uses to build his images. (you'll learn even more if you can read Spanish). Hopefully we will get a translation of this soon. On the right is a picture of Gustavo.
"Hands to Peace" is thus a collection of works which recreate the mythical images of John and Yoko from hand gestures. Of particular interest is the series based on "Sit Ins" It is a game of words which combine the expression "Bed Ins" with various sexual connotations to make up the images.
The exhibititon is open to the public from the 25th October to the 5th November. opening Monday to Friday 12 til 4pm.
