Pop Art ReloadedAhead of his eagerly anticipated second solo exhibition in New York, 26 year old artist Stephen Collett presents his largest and most audacious show yet 'Pop Art Reloaded' relates closely to contemporary living and intrinsically links its self to an imposed modern desire to express one's self through purchasing a lifestyle influenced by an image of sex appeal or fashion. These large, bold pieces of modern art are cheeky and self-assured, they reflect a gallant move on Collett's part in progressing forward from his impressionistic roots to tackle the canvas in a completely original way. In his own words: I cannot paint in a contemporary way or indeed call myself a 'Modern Artist' without first understanding and indeed embracing the movement of 'Pop Art' i.e. 'popular art'. Essentially; it is characterised by themes and techniques from mass media in the 1960s; drawing its influence from 'Popular Culture' and often displaying the artists' love-hate relationships with their subjects. 'Pop Art Reloaded' explores a modern, chic, visual world where you are bombarded with options yet very few choices; and in so doing, graphically illustrates my love-hate relationship with 'Pop Art'..' The Exhibition is open from the 23rd June to the 3rd July, 12am til 4pm Monday to Friday. Below are images of some of the paintings, just click on the image to see them full size in our viewer:- | |
