Seeing Things - Yankel Feather)
Yankel was born in 1920, in Stanhope Street, the same street as Stubbs. In the 60s and 70s he was a well known character around the city owning night clubs and antique shops. During the time when Merseybeat hit the world his friends were Brian Epstein, The Beatles, Cilla Black, Adrian Henri, Arthur Ballard, George Jardine and many many more. While in Liverpool he exhibited with the Liverpool Academy of Art along side SamWalsh , Maurice Cockrill, Adrian Henri, Nicolas Horsfield and Mike Lawson. He attended various art schools and then honed his trade through being with other artists. Whilst his works have hints of Renoir, Degas and Lowry, they are very much his own style - strong, with lightness of brushstrokes over strong linear form with lots of movement. Yankel moved to Cornwall where he became a life long friend of the abstract artist Sir Terry Scott. It was here that he started to come to public notice and gain recognition for the quality of his work. He moved to Brighton Hove ten years ago to what has become both his home and studio where he paints every day. During an interview last year with Radio Merseyside’s Roger Phillips he expressed a wish, as he is heading for ninety, to have an exhibition in the city where he was born. It is with great pleasure that we help him realise this wish and welcome this very talented artist back to his roots with this exhibition at The Liverpool Academy of Arts. The exhibition is open until the 20th June, Monday to Friday between 12 and 4 pm. Saturdays by appointment.
