The Scarlet Pimpernel

Poster

Costumes and poster from the Scarlet Pimpernel show.

Each year the Birkenhead Operatic Society stage a spectacular musical at the Liverpool Empire - productions which have won them numerous awards.

In partnership with them we have staged this exhibition with artists from all over Merseyside to coincide with this years production, "The Scarlet Pimpernel" which is being staged in May.

The exhibition includes painting and craft, on the them of the Scarlet Pimpernel with one of the main subjects being the Venetian mask, a decadent symbol of High Society in revolution-era France. There is a competition for the best mask and best paintings with the prizes awarded by Herbert of Liverpool at the private view.
