Bravo
The objective of this exhibition is to heighten awareness of breast cancer
and the support that is available.
Did you know that this year is the centenary
of the invention of the bra as we know it today?
It has ranged
from the frivolous to the armour plated. It has been designed to
cover, protect, enlarge, decrease, push up and push in - all in
the name of fashion and beauty.
Forty years after the ‘burn our bras’ revolution women are still
buying them in the millions.
Our latest exhibition - a collection of bras of all shapes,
sizes and fabrics from all sorts of people (including some
celebrities), art work and advertising— is in aid of The Lily
Centre,
Liverpool’s breast cancer support organisation, which
will benefit from the proceeds.
We also have a number of bras from various celebrities including Petula Clark, Joanna Lumley, Linda Lusadi,
Maureen Lipman etc. which will be auctioned at the end of the show.
Below are some images taken while the exhibition was being set up.

Julia works on her 'Boob Tube' dress made of entirely of old bras.;
Peter creating one of the many hangings.;
June "fine tunes" a sweet corset.;
The finished exhibition
First some images from the exhibition:-
"A Supporting Wall" A possible entry for the Turner prize?;
Two seductively clad mannequins flank the central photograph of a cast iron corset
designed by June Lornie and used in a fashion show from her theatrical costumiere days.;
A view down the front of the gallery showing some of the hangings, the boob tube dress and
"sweet corset" in the background.
The images below show views of the three wonderful chandeliers
installed at the back of the gallery:-
All three in line.
A good view of the rear gallery. The mannequins shown above can be seen on the right, the floor has been used as
the basis for a dynamic installation of balloons.
An angled shot of the chandeliers.
A view towards the door showing the remaining hangings.
An interesting variant on the previous image.
