This is an exhibition on the life of
Lewis Carroll and Alice in Wonderland with pieces from the Daresbury Lewis Carroll Society and art work by
June Lornie.
June met and became a member of the Lewis Carroll Society in 2001 after Cheshire Life
published an article about her series of pictures on Alice in Wonderland.
Each year the society picks a young girl to be ‘Alice’ and attend functions on their behalf.
As part of this one of the members asked if Alice could come along and open an exhibition at
the Liverpool Academy of Arts where June is the director.
It was from this that the idea for the exhibition grew and Louise Sinker,
a Daresbury Alice, duly took part in the opening. June, who is a
traditionalist, was inspired by Tenniel's illustrations when she created
the 24 pictures that make up this exhibition using her unique technique
- a pastiche of fabric, paper, wood etc. combined with watercolour and
acrylic - to give a three dimensional effect.
There is also a wonderful doll's house
with an Alice theme.

We thought this exhibition would be of particular
interest to children and so, to encourage them, we have added an extra attraction of a colouring competition
for children up to twelve years of age. There are three categories:-

10 to 12 years old |
The main prize in each
category is free entry for a family of four to the "Rabbit Hole" in
Llandudno. And of course there are many other prizes for the
'highly commended'. We hope both children and adults will enjoy the wonders of Lewis Carroll.
We would like to thank the members of the Daresbury
Lewis Carroll Society for lending us their treasured
possessions and for all the help they have given us
in setting up this exhibition; also Muriel Ratcliffe
of the ‘Rabbit Hole’ in Llandudno (well worth a visit)
for donating the prize for the competition.
The exhibition will open Monday to Saturday between
12 and 4 pm from Tuesday 11th July until Friday 28th July. For details
