The Final Rust Resurrection |

| Graham Jenkinson | ||
Graham, who lives and works in Huddersfield, trained as a welder and was working as a maintenance engineer in the textile trade when, in 1996, he was made redundant. In between searching for work he started to develop his interest in the arts and in particular sculpture. He started to use his welding skills to experiment with any piece of scrap metal that came to hand raiding his friends’ garages for material.
He had his first exhibition in Shipton Hall in Halifax where someone commented that his work had reminded them of Arthur Dooley’s sculptures. Graham then made it his business to find out more about Arthur and in the course of this contacted us here at the Liverpool Academy of Arts where he is now a regular exhibitor.
He feels that the objects he uses for his sculpture have an interesting shape and form in their own right and that their age adds a temporal dimension to the pieces - Where have they come from? What have they been used for? etc. With this in mind he rarely cuts up pieces but rather tries to ensure that the original objects are easily identified within the works. This synthesis is often further highlighted by his choice of title where, using his wry sense of humour, he further bonds the sculptured image to the original purpose of the objects used to make it.
The exhibition will open Monday to Friday between 12 and 4.00 pm from Tuesday 18th October until Friday 28th November. For details on how to get there see How to Find Us
