Chasing Skies and Fractured Landscapes |
||
| Graham Lowe | ||
Born in North Yorkshire, Graham trained in commercial and industrial photography at Blackpool College of Art. For many years he worked as a commercial photographer and lecturer in photography at a Further Education College in the North East of England. Meanwhile he was building up and exhibiting his own increasingly successful catalogue of work. He is now concentrating solely on his own work and running the successful Montage Galleries in Castleton in the North York Moors and also at Yarm on Tees.
His catalogue of work comprises mainly landscapes in toned black and white, and also an increasingly popular range of ‘joiners’; a series of landscapes produced through multiple imagery. See ‘About the Photographs below. He has gained recognition for his landscapes in and around his native area, with a number of successful exhibitions to date in the North of England, as well as having work in many private collections across the world.
Although mainly working in and around the North York Moors and Coast, he also shoots landscapes in Scotland, The Yorkshire Dales, and The Lake District.
Graham's style has been described as 'expressionist' - 'painterly' - 'atmospheric'. Working solely with traditional materials his style derives from painstaking work on the images through the development and printing stages to draw out the depth of feeling the landscapes inspire and for which his work has become renowned.
About The Photographs ....
All the photographic work in this exhibition has been produced by traditional 'wet' darkroom printing. It is ALL produced by hand printing; each print is hand done and thiocarbamide toned, a process which gives the warm tone to the prints and also increases the archival properties of the prints. They will outlast YOU!!
The large composite prints contain up to 36 small prints, each one singly printed and individually toned, then assembled into the final work presented here. They are therefore unique; if produced again, they will by nature be different.
The hand coloured part of the image is again hand printed onto watercolour paper which Graham coats with silver gelatin emulsion, individually prints and then hand colours.
There are NO mediocre digital works in this exhibition.
The exhibition will open Monday to Friday between 12 and 4.00 pm from Tuesday 18th until Friday 28th October. For details on how to get there see How to Find Us
