Neoteric Adumbrations

Stanley Guy

Evocative recent paintings. This figurative exhibition charts the artist's progression from realism to powerful simplification of form and colour, while maintaining his strong narrative values. In his own words:- There is a strong narrative element in my work, which evolves naturally whether I am researching earlier artistic movements, personal experiences, biblical stories, or social comment. Honesty is of vital importance in my interpretations, it forms the mainframe upon which all other considerations are built. Without this personal integrity, my work would be meaningless. In order to enhance this vein of truth I make no excuse for distorting pictorial reality, and converting sometimes painful thoughts and emotions into tangible representations. By exaggerating form, dimensions and colour arrangements I strive to produce powerful, intriguing, and transpersonal art.

Reality Reality

A jaundiced view of my environment and personal situation. I make full use of the Eastern European artisits device of exaggerating size in order to enhance the importance of character.

Returned

In defence of painting. This work is a lighthearted assault on the arch - conceptualist.

Eden

Eden

A jaded view of the orginal sin.

Onan

Onan

Inspired by the paintings of George Grosz, this is a study of the imagined torture experienced by recidivist onanists. This painting is a milestone in my work - as I depart from photographic representation to simplified form and blocks of colour I am searching fo a collage effect.

Studio

Studio

An intolerant impression of a shared studio, highlighting the tensions caused by creative people in too close proximity.

Still Life with Hat

Still Life With Hat

A collection of the mental props that have inhabited my recent work.
